Russian Film Festival "Frames of Memory" Opens in Dhaka to Celebrate Victory Day

Dhaka, 14 May 2026 — The Russian House in Bangladesh has inaugurated a week-long film festival titled “Frames of Memory: From Moscow to Bangladesh” to mark the 81st anniversary of Russian Victory Day.The opening ceremony, held at the Russian House in the capital, turned into a vibrant gathering attended by Russian language students, scholarship aspirants, university representatives, members of cultural organizations, and enthusiastic film lovers.Organizers stated that the main objective of the festival is to preserve historical memory through the powerful medium of cinema and to strengthen cultural dialogue between Bangladesh and Russia.In her opening speech, Alexandra Khlevnaya highlighted the importance of remembering the millions of lives lost during World War II. She recalled the tragic human cost of the war and emphasized how cinema preserves historical truth and inspires future generations toward peace and humanity.


Following the speech, audiences were presented with a psychological analysis of the Soviet classic “Ballad of a Soldier”, which was then screened in full. The film’s portrayal of courage, sacrifice, and the indomitable human spirit amid the devastation of war deeply moved the viewers.The festival will continue until 21 May 2026. During this period, selected masterpieces from the Soviet and post-war eras will be screened, offering audiences unique “frames” of history and art.Organizers expressed hope that the event will further strengthen cultural bonds between Bangladesh and Russia, while connecting the younger generation more deeply with world cinema and shared historical memory.
The “Frames of Memory” film festival is open to the general public and is being regarded as a significant cultural highlight for film enthusiasts in Dhaka this week.
